The Administration Department wrote to the Legislative Council yesterday (4th), suggesting that Members should focus on seven "areas of public concern" at tomorrow's Q&A session with the Chief Executive, which has aroused heated discussions in the political circles.
Some lawmakers criticized the move for undermining the role of lawmakers in monitoring the government.
Chief Executive Li Jiachao said today (5th) when attending the DAB party celebration reception that tomorrow will be the first time he will attend the Legislative Council question and answer session as the Chief Executive, clarifying that he will answer any questions from all members.

Li Jiachao explained that he initially received an inquiry from the Legislative Council Secretariat on whether he would speak or what issues he wanted to focus on. Therefore, the government sent a letter to respond. If the Legislative Council Secretariat did not inquire, the government would not have responded.
He said that the SAR government attaches great importance to President Xi Jinping's important speech, so it focuses on discussing certain issues, emphasizing that "other issues are everywhere, and no one is welcome."
