Munich's Lord Mayor Reiter is aiming for a third term.

Because of his age, the law would need to be changed.

A comment by Christian Deutschländer.

History repeats itself, also in Bavaria's entertaining state politics.

A voting age law should bowl the popular mayor of Munich out of office?

We know, we had ten years ago.

At that time, the CSU in the state parliament worked out a graduated model for the age limits of the mayors, so that several CSU district administrators were allowed to do it again - but Munich's Mayor Ude (SPD) was not.

Munich: Reiter shakes the age limit - a contentious issue

Now Ude's successor Dieter Reiter is shaking the age limit because he wants to compete again.

The prospect that the CSU will give way in the state parliament this time is tiny.

At the very beginning of the Söder period in 2018, the opposition had a window of opportunity to rearrange all sorts of terms of office and age limits, at that time he even offered to change the constitution – they idled away.

One can argue about the age limits.

Our society is getting older, at 67 many people are fit for the job.

At the same time, Bavaria needs experienced local politicians.

Your job doesn't sound as dazzling as that of a minister for Gedings, but it is at least as difficult in a divided society in permanent crisis mode.

If you want to have the best for this, you can question rigid age limits.

Local voters are usually best placed to decide whether their local politician has fire for another six years.
