Two police officers injured after a shooting in Philadelphia during the fireworks for the 4th of July

The agents are in stable condition and no injured civilians are reported. SWAT teams search for the suspect inside an apartment tower near where a public concert with thousands of people was taking place.


Two Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, police officers were injured Monday during a July 4 concert and fireworks display, local authorities said.

The officers are receiving medical care and are in stable condition.

No civilian injuries have been reported so far, according to police.

The shooting occurred near the Philadelphia Museum of Art during the Wawa Welcome America concert,

where thousands of people were enjoying Independence Day festivities.

Police surrounded an apartment building and SWAT special tactical agents entered the tower looking for the suspect, reported NBC Philadelphia, an affiliate of our sister network NBC News.

Police said they had also been searching for a 6-year-old boy who was lost in the crowd as they ran for safety as gunfire erupted.

Minutes later they reported that they had managed to reunite the child with his parents safe and sound.

The attack comes the same day a 22-year-old white man opened fire on a crowd in a Chicago suburb during a Fourth of July parade, killing six people and wounding 38 others.
