VW boss Diess turns the network against himself with a strange statement.

For him, a $250 dinner seems normal.

Wolfsburg – VW boss Herbert Diess likes to offend.

His idea of renaming Volkswagen caused a stir.

Again and again he makes headlines with his statements, and also for disputes with the works council.

Now he's managed to turn the internet against him because he made a completely aloof comparison at a discussion event.

"Car costs as much as a meal" - VW boss causes trouble with his statement

As "winfuture" reports, Diess was invited to take part in an event organized by the semiconductor manufacturer TSMC.

Semiconductors are important parts of every car, but in recent months, an enormous shortage has caused automakers to struggle.

At the event, Diess was supposed to talk about e-cars and their future and advantages.

But at some point it was about leasing and the Volkswagen boss has a very clear opinion on it.

A journalist who attended the event quoted the CEO on Twitter: "How much does a steak dinner cost in New York?

$200 to $250 per person?” Diess said accordingly.

"That's the price of leasing a good car in the US, even a premium car - you can get a good car for the price of a meal."

VW boss Herbert Diess received a salary of over ten million euros in 2021

For the average citizen, a steak dinner for $250 is rarely if ever there.

However, if you look at the salary of the Volkswagen boss, it should probably only be peanuts.

Last year, the top manager received more than 10.3 million euros for his work at the Wolfsburg carmaker.

If you subtract his pension entitlements, there are still almost 8.6 million euros, as the annual report shows.

But the works councils also earn quite a bit at VW, but that has already led to a legal dispute.

Twitter user: Diess' steak comparison "far from reality"

For the journalist who brought Diess' testimony to the public, a $250 meal is unimaginable.

He writes that he has never spent so much money on food.

"That's a really strange comment," he adds.

And so do many other Twitter users.

While one user comments: "And they say that the Germans have no sense of humor," another does not find it funny at all: "It's so far from reality that it's not even funny."

"Build the right car for the burger restaurant in terms of price.

I think it's a good thing"

On Facebook, a user demands: “Then build the right car in relation to the burger restaurant in terms of price.

I think that would be a good thing.” Another notes that many people only have $250 to spend on groceries for an entire month.

Food is getting more and more expensive right now.

A survey shows that one in three Germans spends half their salary on food.

What's more, even if you could just about afford to lease a car for $250 a month, that's not even counting the running costs.

After all, it also needs fuel or electricity and insurance.

Not to mention repair costs and the like.

But with ten million, I'm sure you don't worry too much about that.
