Fabian Kahl regularly proves to have a good hand with "Bares for Rares".

But sometimes appearances are deceptive and some objects turn out to be shams.

It is particularly annoying when, like the dealer, you dig deep into your pocket for the supposed antique.

Pulheim – Fabian Kahl (30) has been one of the dealers in “Bares for Rares” since the first season in 2013 (all news on the topic page).

At the age of 17 he already ran an antique shop on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm.

But even an expert like Fabian Kahl can make a mistake - now he reveals his biggest bad buy and what it cost him.

"Bares for Rares" dealer Fabian Kahl pays 3000 euros for an alleged antique

On the "Bares for Rares" Instagram channel, the 30-year-old reveals how he once fell victim to a scam.

The supposed antique was a bronze figure: "It was a large figure of a jockey on horseback," said Fabian Kahl in an interview.

The dealer digs deep into his pocket for the object and buys the statue for a whopping 3,000 euros.

A big mistake, as the dealer realizes when he comes home and presents his purchase to Father Holger, who is also an antique dealer.

Bronze figure turns out to be new

"Boy, that thing is brand new!", Fabian's father recognizes at first glance.

Oh my!

He was then able to get rid of the bronze figure for 500 euros, Fabian reveals.

A tidy sum of tuition that the "Bares for Rares" star had to pay.

"It did hurt," admits Fabian Kahl, but he sees the experience positively, after all he learned a lot from the bad purchase and that in turn made him a better dealer.

His visit to "Bares for Rares" also brought a bitter realization for Sky du Mont.

The actor spoke of an "economic total loss."
