The current agricultural season witnessed a remarkable turnout by farmers to grow the yellow corn crop of all kinds in the lands under the supervision of the work of the General Authority for the Management and Development of the Forest in Hama Governorate, where the cultivated areas reached 1032 hectares.
Director of Plant Wealth in the Authority, Engineer Wafiq Zaroof, explained to SANA that 244 hectares of corn were planted in the main loop and 788 hectares in the intensifying loop out of the total plan planned for the current season, which amounts to 680 hectares distributed equally between the two loops, indicating that all types of corn are cultivated in the Al-Ghab area, whether bile, brooms or fodder.
He added that maize is one of the important crops and occupies a distinguished position on the map of agricultural production in the Al-Ghab region and enjoys a good productive and economic position as it contributes to achieving material income for farmers and securing a basic material for a number of food industries in addition to converting some of it into fodder for livestock, especially cows and buffaloes, noting that The authority works to encourage farmers to expand their cultivation by securing work and production requirements in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
For their part, a number of farmers pointed out that maize is a widespread crop in most parts of the Al-Ghab region, and its grains are consumed as fodder for poultry and livestock. Support for farmers, especially in terms of securing irrigation water and increasing their allocations of fuels needed for the irrigation process.
