The Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Engineer Ayham Hamed, announced that the initial estimates for the production of summer crops and vegetables for the current season are about 80,000 tons, the majority of which are from irrigated crops.
In a statement to SANA reporter, Hamed explained that the estimated total production is good, since these crops depend on irrigation water, and they are among the important crops that secure local needs and provide a source of income for workers in all workshops.
Hamed pointed out that the total areas planted with summer crops and vegetables for the current season exceeded 13,000 dunums, most of them irrigated, and included varieties of tomatoes, red and yellow watermelons, potatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, beans and sesame.
It is noteworthy that As-Suwayda's production of summer crops and vegetables last season exceeded 94 thousand tons.
