Sloviansk/Kyiv - After conquering the entire Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine, the Russians are now increasingly targeting Donetsk and shelling the region massively.

Apparently, the city of Sloviansk was hit particularly hard.

The regional government has now called on the hundreds of thousands of residents who live there to flee.

"My main advice is evacuation," Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said on Tuesday evening (July 5).

"There wasn't a day without shelling this week," the governor said.

The city is within range of Russian multiple rocket launchers.

"The enemy is chaotically shelling the city, the attacks are aimed at destroying the local population," the governor added.

According to the Ukrainian side, there is no longer a safe place in the whole of Donetsk.

Ukrainian troops strike back in the Donbass - Probably high Russian losses

After the capture of Luhansk by Russia, the Ukrainian soldiers regrouped and built a new defensive wall along the line of the three small towns of Siversk, Soledar and Bakhmut.

This should stop the Russian offensive on the Slovjansk-Kramatorsk industrial area - the headquarters of the Ukrainian military in Donbass - from the east.

Fighting would be ongoing for the front lines of defense.
