Over 180 groups, over 60,000 demo participants and around 1.2 million visitors are said to have attended the CSD demo.

This could also affect the corona virus – how exactly remains to be seen.
But one thing is clear: the more contacts there are, the easier it is for people to contract the virus.
Already in March 2022 there was a real carnival effect on the Corona situation in Cologne.
Within a few days, the incidence in Cologne after the Cologne Carnival and Rose Monday demonstration rose rapidly: on Rose Monday, February 28, the incidence was still 1076.8.
On March 10th - a week and a half later - the value was 2973.

It remains to be seen whether the carnival effect will continue after the July weekend with several major events in Cologne.
But the incidence in individual districts is already significantly higher than the Cologne average.
The current incidence leader in Cologne is Libur – with 1429.8.
The problem: Since July 1, corona tests have generally been subject to a fee – including in the approximately 820 corona test centers in Cologne.
The corona test is only free of charge in exceptional cases.
Therefore, many fear that a corona infection will go unnoticed because people test themselves less.
And even now the number of unreported cases is significantly higher.
"The reason is, among other things, that only the results of the PCR tests are included in the incidence and many infected people leave it at a positive antigen rapid test," a city spokeswoman recently explained to 24RHEIN.
