Corona wave hits Greece - numerous tourist destinations are affected

Several tourist hotspots in Greece are recording a sharp increase in numbers, the corona virus is spreading rapidly in the holiday paradise.
Athens – For more than two years, the corona virus has been an integral part of many people's everyday lives, and since then numerous measures have made travel difficult, among other things.
It is all the more understandable that many people are currently looking forward to their long-awaited summer vacation.
While numerous tourists are causing chaos at the airports, the new Corona summer wave is building up in Greece.
Popular tourist hotspots are particularly affected.

However, increasing corona numbers and high incidences are not a picture that can currently only be seen in holiday countries.
In Germany, too, the Robert Koch Institute reports high numbers, and the first clinics are already struggling with staff shortages.
The current summer corona wave is also leaving its mark on Greece.
As the Greek health authority announced on Monday, young people aged 18 to 24 and mainly tourist regions are particularly affected.
The corona numbers have recently increased, especially on the islands of Corfu, Kefalonia and Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea.
But Crete and the region of Attica, including the capital Athens, are also affected - as is the southern Aegean with islands such as Mykonos, Rhodes, Kos and Paros.
In the intensive care units, however, the increasing number of infections is not yet apparent.
The weekly comparison clearly shows that the numbers are increasing from day to day.
On Sunday, Greek health authorities recorded around 11,700 new infections, compared to just 3,700 cases within 24 hours the week before.
Corona measures in Greece lifted in many places before the holiday season
Similar to many other European countries, Greece also abolished many measures at the beginning of the summer season.
Only in hospitals and nursing homes as well as in local public transport is attention paid to compliance with the corona measures, such as wearing a mask.
Italy is also struggling with problems during the holiday season, water shortages and drought are causing drastic measures.
Water is already being rationed in some regions.
