Daraa-Sana
The Daraa Agriculture Directorate estimated the governorate’s production of the olive crop during the current season at 19,423 tons.
The head of the plant production department in the directorate, Eng. Wael Al-Ahmad, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the total area planted with olives is 22,902 hectares, and the number of planted trees is 4.71 million, of which 3.772 million are in the fruiting stage, explaining that olive cultivation spreads in most areas of the governorate.
He added that the directorate provides farmers with agricultural extension services and opens every year special schools for olive cultivation to train farmers on how to provide basic services to the plant in order to reach the highest production. It also sells the plants to citizens at nominal prices.
