Paris confirms the death of a second French fighter in Ukraine

According to RTL, Adrien D., a 20-year-old Frenchman died of his injuries on June 25.

He had been wounded on the Kharkiv front earlier this month, in the same Russian artillery fire that killed Wilfried Blériot, another Frenchman.

"We have learned the sad news of this death," said the Quai d'Orsay in a press release published on Tuesday.

“We offer our condolences to his family, with whom the services concerned (…) are in contact.”

Seriously injured, he had been treated in a field hospital near Kharkiv.

According to RTL, on March 1 he joined the international legion which is fighting in Ukraine alongside Ukrainian soldiers against Russia.

The UN denounces an "intolerable toll" for civilians

High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet lambasted the "intolerable" civilian toll of the Ukrainian conflict on Tuesday in Geneva, with nearly 5,000 confirmed civilian casualties since the start of the Russian offensive five months ago.

"Civilians are bearing the brunt of hostilities that do not seem to have an end", lamented the High Commissioner before the Human Rights Council, on the sidelines of the presentation of a report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.

According to the latest report from the UN body, dated July 3, 4,889 civilians, including 335 children, have been killed since the start of the conflict - a figure probably underestimated.

Sloviansk, next target

Russian forces continue to advance this Wednesday in the Donbass, where the inhabitants of Sloviansk, Moscow's next target, are called upon to evacuate in the face of intense bombardment.
