Large-scale operation of the fire brigade in Hamburg-Finkenwerder.
During the night there was a gas explosion at the district school.
Hamburg – The fire brigade is currently in action with a large contingent in the Finkenwerder district of Hamburg.
Local residents reported an explosion in the basement on Norderschulweg.
At around 3:43 a.m. on the morning of July 6, 2022, the fire brigade was alerted.
When the emergency services arrive on site, they can still hear the hissing of the escaping gas, the police told 24hamburg.de.
The gas explosion caused considerable damage to the Finkenwerder district school building.
Walls of the Hamburg school have collapsed, and according to the police, the building is unusable.

According to initial findings and statements by the police, the headmaster's office and the teachers' room at the Finkenwerder district school were also affected by the explosion and fire.
The caretaker of the school is said to live in the building, but according to initial findings he is unharmed.
July 6, 2022 is the last day of school in Hamburg before the summer holidays, but the Finkenwerder district school will remain closed today due to the operation caused by the gas explosion.
Pupils are currently being informed and emergency care is being set up.
According to the police, the adjacent high school in Finkenwerder cannot be used today because the affected gas line also runs along there.
