An ambulance did not stop at the scene, but drove on.

The problem: There are two streets in Munich in Icking.

The community is puzzled as to what to do.

Icking – It takes about 46 minutes to walk from Münchner Straße 9 to Münchner Straße 7.

The properties in Icking are relatively large - but such a distance is unusual even in the Isar Valley municipality.

The reason: There are two Munich Streets in town.

And both have the same house numbers.

One meanders past fields in the district of Icking, the other arises from the serpentines in the district of Dorfen.

This has been the case for a long time, since 1978 to be precise, i.e. since Dorfen was incorporated.

That wasn't a problem for a long time either.

Icking has two streets in Munich - one in Dorfen, one in the main town

Now it seems to be one thing: navigation devices are overwhelmed with two Munich streets in Icking.

Some delivery services or courier drivers have already gone astray.

And at the latest, when an ambulance drove towards Icking instead of stopping in Dorfen, the community realized: This place is too small for two Munich streets.

At least one should get a new name.

The decision should be made by the people who are affected.

The residents of the streets of Munich were asked by the municipality for their opinion.

There were three options to choose from: the street in Icking will become the northern one, and the counterpart in Dorfen will become the southern Munich street.

Variant two involves renaming the street in Dorfen to "Strassfeld" or "Schlederloher Straße", or - option three - it gets a completely new name.

Navigation devices and Google Maps are overwhelmed in Icking - what happens to the streets of Munich?

59 residents were written to - 52 replied with an unsurprising tendency: the residents of the Münchner Straße in Icking would prefer a renaming only in Dorfen.

The majority of Dorfeners see it differently: They want to continue living on Münchner Strasse, even if it were to be Südliche in the future and they read the word "Nördliche" on the street signs in Icking.

An amicable solution does not appear to be in sight.

Mayor Verena Reithmann explained in the municipal council meeting that some citizens had asked for the renaming to be carried out "not for reasons that are only known by hearsay".

As a result, she asked the integrated control center how big the confusion about the streets of the same name actually was.

The employee there sees “no need” for new names on the map, the head of the town hall reported.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Wolfratshausen-Geretsried newsletter.

Because the suggestion came from the citizenry, the head of the town hall does not want to put the topic to rest immediately.

She will raise the issue again at the public meetings.
