During the first half of this year, the Homs Livestock Development Project branch carried out various activities with the aim of improving the situation of livestock and supporting its workers.
The director of the project branch in Homs, Dr. Emile Salloum, said in a statement to SANA reporter that 502 loans worth 338 million and 650 thousand pounds were implemented during the first half of this year within the scope of the work of the rural microfinance component, which benefited 30 villages in various regions of the governorate, pointing out that all loans The in-kind grant aims to increase and develop the number of livestock herds, and it included the distribution of sheep, goats and poultry, in addition to grants that include fodder materials.
Salloum said that during the mentioned period, several sessions and courses were implemented, targeting 281 beneficiaries within the field of the livestock support and development component, in order to familiarize the trainees with the most important diseases that affect livestock and methods of prevention and treatment.
Regarding the reality of livestock in Homs, the head of the Animal Health Department in the Homs Agriculture Directorate, Dr. Rabie Al-Ahmad, confirmed that the general condition of the livestock herds is good and there are no epidemic diseases. The department’s elements carry out preventive and curative vaccination campaigns in all areas of the governorate, as well as follow-up continuous supervision of the reality of the herd and its health condition. .
It is noteworthy that the livestock development project started in 2013 in cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and the International Fund for Agricultural Development and aims to increase the income of rural families that depend on livestock production by introducing them into rainfed farming systems and enhancing their production services. 861 million pounds.
