The corona numbers fluctuate from day to day.

The incidence fell again on Wednesday.

The RKI gives a value of 678.8.

However, experts assume that the number of unreported cases is high.

Berlin – The free citizen tests for everyone have been abolished.

Not all infected people do a PCR test.

But only the positive PCR tests are included in the corona statistics.

The incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation in Germany.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gives the nationwide

7-day incidence

on Wednesday morning at

678.8

.

The day before, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 687.7 (previous week: 646.3; previous month: 253.8).

The official infection numbers have risen sharply in the past few weeks, even if fewer tests are being carried out.

Within one day,

130,728 new corona infections

(previous week: 133,950) and

122 deaths

(previous week: 175) were reported to the RKI.

The high number of infections is also noticeable in the hospitals.

1,048 Covid-19 patients are currently in an intensive care unit.

Of these, 311 must be artificially ventilated – as of July 6th.

This emerges from the DIVI intensive care register.

The number of intensive care patients has been increasing again since the beginning of June.

But unlike in the summer of 2021, the number only dropped to around 600 and never below 400.

Increasing number of infections due to summer wave: First clinics report “Corona emergency”

The occupancy is relatively high for a summer, said the scientific director of the DIVI intensive care bed register, Christian Karagiannidis of the

Rheinische Post, "

and the available beds are becoming fewer and fewer due to the lack of staff."

The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) reported a “corona emergency” at the end of June.

"There is currently a sharp increase in the number of employees with COVID-19," said the UKSH in a press release.

Significantly more patients with and because of a corona infection would have to be cared for at great expense in addition to the generally high number of patients in the emergency room.

"Across the country, various hospitals are closing wards and departments in order to get the situation under control through internal reorganization, including at the UKSH," says the clinic.

Business trips for employees have been prohibited until further notice.

The university clinic is appealing to the population to take protective measures seriously again and “to avoid emergency rooms with any non-high-threatening illness.”

The Omikron BA.5 is currently driving the summer wave.

Corona researchers are already one step further: they have identified a new omicron subvariant called BA.2.75.

The new Omikron variant BA.2.75 is probably a second generation of the BA.2 variant.

And be "alarming".
