Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Kazakhstan has not taken any decision in support of Western sanctions on his country, but rather is working to strengthen cooperation between Tashkent and Moscow.
Russia Today website quoted Peskov as saying: "The two governments are in constant contact and consultations are held periodically, including at the summit level," noting that Kazakhstan will remain a friendly country to Russia.
Peskov added: What happened is the declaration of an absolute intention by the governments of the two countries to further expand cooperation and jointly respond to challenges that come from abroad and reduce the consequences of unfriendly actions.
The Russian and Uzbek Presidents, Vladimir Putin, and Shavkat Morziaev confirmed during their phone talks yesterday ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Moscow and Tashkent and work to develop it.
