After a two-year Corona compulsory break, the members of the Association of Friends of the Maria Thalheim Pilgrimage Churches were able to meet again for the annual general meeting in the church.
According to a press release from the association, chairman Hans Wiesmaier addressed, among other things, the interior renovation that has now been completed.
New elections were also pending.
Maria Thalheim – Wiesmaier explained that donations of over 200,000 euros have been received since the association was founded in 2011.
“This proud sum shows that we have achieved a great deal.
Our pilgrimage church has been wonderfully restored as a place of Marian worship and in its art-historical uniqueness in an impressive way.”
The association currently has 74 members.
267 so-called building blocks were purchased.
A donation of 500 euros is designated as a building block.
If desired, the donors will be named in a prominent place in the church.
Kathrin Wiesmaier presented a review of the 2019 anniversary year for the 600th anniversary of the pilgrimage to Maria Thalheim.
Deacon Christian Pastötter gave a picture lecture about the renovation work that had been carried out.
"Since 2011 we have been able to support the interior renovation to completion thanks to the high willingness to donate.
The shell, the high altar and the six side altars have been renovated to an outstanding standard.
Finally, the latticework from 1740 and the holy bodies,” says Pastötter.
The association supported the restoration of the richly shaped, wrought-iron latticework in the church – upgraded by a restorer in months of painstaking work – with 27,000 euros.
The restoration of the holy bodies of the martyrs Florentius and Hilarius was also supported and took place in 2021 (we reported).
After the Corona turbulence, a celebration for the tenth birthday of the association is to be held with a little delay this fall.
The next task and financial challenge will be the restoration of the church tower.
Its color has already been washed away beyond recognition in some places.
The association would like to support this project in the long term.
This requires own funds of around 60,000 euros.
This year, those responsible for the association are paying particular attention to recruiting members.
Declarations of membership are available in the pilgrimage church.
If you are interested, you can also access them online on the parish association's website.
Alexander Reiser, Maria Thalheim's parish council chairman, had an easy time managing the new elections, since the entire board made themselves available again.
