The old town of Wolfratshausen is to be upgraded.

An ambitious project in view of an empty city coffers.

Wolfratshausen – Our old town should become (even) more beautiful: the city councils have committed themselves to this goal.

The process of upgrading the old town began in autumn 2018 - at the moment one piece of the overall picture is the subject of a controversial discussion: the relocation of the Marienbrunnen.

An argument of the opponents: The project costs 200,000 euros.

The mayor cannot yet say how much money the municipality will probably have to invest in the major project: "We are only in the preliminary design phase," explains Klaus Heilinglechner when asked by our newspaper.

As reported, the area between the municipal music school on Untermarkt and the Littig Villa in the south is to be given a fresh coat of paint.

Among other things, the market street should be wider and the traffic more or less banned from the city center.

Instead, the quality of stay should increase in order to attract more people to the historic old town.

In May 2019, the city council made a decision in principle, and last autumn the Munich office Mahl-Gebhard-Concepts (mgk) presented preliminary drafts, as reported.

A little later, the city council followed suit: Against the votes of the three representatives of the Wolfratshauser list, the committee expanded the planning order to include the redesign of the square in front of the Littig villa on Beuerberger Straße.

Citizens of Wolfratshausen suggested relocating the Marienbrunnen

The decision to move the Marienbrunnen a few meters towards Marktstraße was made in April this year.

The proposal was made by Wilhelm Eilers as part of the citizens' participation in Wolfratshauser - the city councilors Helmut Forster, Richard Kugler (both Wolfratshauser Liste) as well as Helmuth Holzheu, Josef Praller and Maximilian Schwarz (all citizens' association) rejected the request.

15 councilors voted in favor of it, but it was important that the ax should not be placed on the plane trees to the right and left of the fountain.

As reported, the Wolfratshauser list is struggling with the decision and is currently collecting signatures for a citizens' initiative to keep Marienplatz in its current form.

But what about the overall project?

"Our planning offices are currently finalizing Mahl-Gebhard concepts and BPR Dr.

Schäpertöns Consult takes care of the preliminary design,” answers Mayor Heilinglechner.

"The preliminary draft must then be decided in one of the next meetings of the city council and the draft planning, the detailed planning for the one-way street area between Johannisgasse and Bahnhofstrasse must be initiated," the head of the city hall continued.

This is exactly what the policy decision of May 2019 envisages.

For the continuation of the planning in the current year "sufficient remaining funds have been set aside in the budget".

The finished design will be presented to the public at a public information session in the Loisachhalle.

Heilinglechner: "Then the implementation planning can be continued and a more concrete schedule can be created." The mayor refers to the online portal for urban development on the municipality's homepage.

There, everyone can personally get an idea of "previous milestones" and find out about the current status of individual projects.

Heilinglechner emphasizes that "a lot is happening" in the rafting town, "this overview shows very nicely".

We are only in the preliminary design phase, any statement on costs would currently be pure reading of tea leaves.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner

The planners and mayor have not yet said a single word about the probable total costs of upgrading the old town.

Heilinglechner does not want to get involved on the subject either: "We are only in the preliminary design phase, any statement on costs would currently be just reading coffee grounds." The mgk office, as the city's contractor, does not comment on the specific project.

The query on the subject of investment costs is answered in a flat rate: "The costs for upgrading the inner city are very individual, depending on the scope, equipment, degree of renovation, etcetera, and are always determined on a project-specific basis."

Wolfratshausen is currently not financially on a bed of roses

The financial situation of Loisachstadt is anything but rosy.

Above all, the upcoming general renovation and expansion of the school location on Hammerschmiedweg is expensive.

The city will invest around 50 million euros in the next few years.

The municipal supervisory authority has already raised its index finger and called for budget consolidation measures.

For this reason, the head of the town hall and parliamentary group spokesman met twice for internal talks, the next time according to information from our newspaper on July 18th.

Tax and fee increases are not excluded.
