US statistics concerned with collecting information about deaths and injuries related to armed violence incidents showed that the number of shootings at the weekend exceeded 500 shootings across the country between Friday and Monday.

Of all the gun violence incidents recorded over the weekend, at least 11 were classified as mass shootings, incidents with four or more casualties, CBS News reported.

According to statistics, the country has witnessed 414 shooting incidents. It is reported that about 542 people were injured and 198 died, including two children and 10 teenagers.

In Philadelphia, police officers were injured after the attacker opened fire in a place where residents watched festive fireworks, and a shooting at a festive procession in Highland Park in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, killed six people and wounded at least 24 others.

The problem of gun violence again became the focus of the US authorities' attention after two tragedies that occurred in May, the first armed attack on a supermarket in Buffalo, killing 10 people, and the second mass shooting at Ovaldi Elementary School, in which the perpetrator killed 19 children and two teachers.
