Russian authorities are threatening to ban the Jewish Agency's operations on their territory, accusing the organization specializing in migration to Israel of violating a law on the collection of data from Russian citizens.
The warning does not explicitly demand a cessation of the agency's activities in Russia, but it is a warning.
More and more Russian Jews have been immigrating to Israel since the start of the war against Ukraine last February.
They are driven by international economic sanctions that curb their activities and by growing political persecution of opponents and other activists.
The phenomenon is called "alya Putin", in reference to the term which designates the process which offers Jews, children or grandchildren of Jews, the right to quickly obtain Israeli citizenship.
