Opinion | Sheerin's Death Inquiry: A Predictable Conspiracy Chronicle Israel today

The Palestinians do not easily give up a good story that can make Israel demonic • After the Palestinian conflict lost much of the public interest in the world in it, the death of the journalist breathed life into it

About two months ago, Al-Jazeera journalist Shirin Abu Akla was shot and killed in the Jenin refugee camp.

Israel's accusation of her deliberate death was almost pavlovy.

An IDF investigation published two days after the incident revealed that there were two possible sources of gunfire: one, which the Palestinian gunmen shot and hit while aiming at military vehicles; It is assumed that she was accidentally harmed. Why are there no absolute and certain results? Why were soldiers not interrogated who could have been involved in the incident?

Unsurprisingly, in American and Palestinian investigations, the reality is different: CNN and the New York Times have published investigations in which only Israel is blamed for the death of Abu Akla, whether accidentally or intentionally;

The Palestinians stepped up their efforts and published an "investigation" according to which Sheerin was shot in the back as she tried to escape from IDF soldiers, who simply opened fire on journalists, as we know the IDF likes to do.

But for anyone with a bit of common sense, it is clear that the Israeli interest is the opposite, that the damage from killing Abu Akla is several times greater than the benefit of silencing it.

Why does the issue come up again?

Because the Palestinians do not easily give up on a good story that can make Israel demonic.

After the Palestinian conflict lost much of the public interest in the world in it, the death of the journalist breathed life into it.

The US president's impending visit brought up the story again, and the US administration pressured the Palestinians to hand him the bullet, which was allegedly removed from her body to "reach a breakthrough in the investigation" and it was determined that it was not clear who killed him.

There may be additional tests, with which we will also cooperate, instead of standing up and saying logically and confidently that this test is meaningless because it could have been completely disrupted over time.

This may sound delusional, but it is a completely sane possibility when it comes to Palestinians: Hundreds of terrorists were shot and killed by the fire of our forces.

What is the problem with taking such a bullet, cleaning it and dripping a few drops of the journalist's blood on it?

This is how DNA is, the Arabs will say, and the world will believe the story that the IDF hid its weapons, shot and killed, and that's it.

The fact that hundreds of stolen IDF weapons are circulating in Jenin will not change anything.

A few words to conclude: A war journalist is a hero.

He tells an important story and knows that in doing so he also endangers his life.

He may be killed accidentally on both sides, and he takes that into account.

We know that unfortunately, the IDF also occasionally accidentally hits its soldiers, and of course no one blames them for the murder. However, hundreds of journalists have been killed and killed in war zones around the world, and no one ballistically checks any bullet. Only us. What's new?

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
