Paris: teens posted videos of their burglaries and assaults on Snapchat

There are those who skip class to go to the cinema, to the swimming pool, or to meet up with friends in parks.

These kids aged 15 and 16 and living in the 15th arrondissement of Paris could have chosen the André Citroën park.

But it's a completely different activity they have found to replace high school, illegal this one.

Between January and May 2022, they would have committed at least eleven burglaries in this same sector of Paris, two purse robberies, three simple thefts with fraudulent use of a credit card and death threats against the concierge of a building. .

On June 29, seven young people were arrested and taken into custody by the police officers of the initiative investigation brigade (BEI) of the 15th arrondissement.

Three others, whose involvement is less, were summoned by free hearings.

After all these little people were heard, four most involved teenagers were presented to the children's judge and reconvened next November.

Their misdeeds, this band of kids immortalized them on the social network Snapchat.

That's what lost them.

Filmed thefts to brag to their comrades

The preliminary investigation begins on January 24, 2022 with the arrest of two young people suspected of a burglary.

The offense is "insufficiently characterized" for the Paris prosecutor's office and they are released.

But the police noticed by exploiting the mobile phones of these suspects that they exchange, in a Snapchat group, unequivocal messages.

On February 3, on the occasion of a new case of theft with violence of a luxury watch, this time, the laptop is kept for further technical analysis.

And there, the investigators discover videos recorded during thefts which are then shown in their school to boast.

The agents stick to their train and note that these high school students, rather than going to class, find themselves in an underground car park and sometimes even directly in the school establishment before coming out for their misdeeds.

During the searches, the investigators found in the main suspects, all known to the police, branded clothing and video game consoles.

The police were thus able to identify 19 victims for an overall damage estimated at at least 50,000 euros.
