During question time in the Sports Committee, the head of the Regensburg Sports Office is unusually clear.

Regensburg – After a letter of complaint from clubs at the municipal sports facility on Weinweg, Johann Nuber, head of the Regensburg sports department, speaks unusually openly about personnel matters and repeatedly criticizes the colleagues from the municipal garden department.

Trouble at the Weinweg sports facility: is there too little talk to each other?

Green City Councilor Daniel Gaittet asked several questions about the letter at the Sports Committee meeting.

Several clubs that are active on the facility in the west of Regensburg, including the "Bunte Liga eV", had complained about various grievances and criticized the new groundskeeper.

"When it comes to the sports facility on the Weinweg, there is too much talk about each other and not enough with each other," says Gaittet.

He suggests a regular round table at which all those involved can regularly exchange ideas in order to prevent such conflicts.

Criticism of conditions on sports facilities: interim solution for the kiosk

Sports chief Nuber admits some of the problems addressed in the letter.

For example the problem that the kiosk has been closed for two years now.

A call for tenders is in the works, but there are still legal concerns.

That is why there should now be an interim solution, according to Nuber.

A tool shed will be made available and equipped with benches and refrigerators.

It has been agreed with the Bunter Liga that the players there will serve their own drinks, at least on weekends, so that they can get together after training or games.

"It's part of the sport and we see it that way," says Nuber.

No new artificial turf on the Weinweg for years: head of the sports department criticizes the garden department

When Gaittet asks about the still outstanding artificial turf for a place that has been decided for years and there is money for it in the investment program, Nuber seems resigned.

"If I could, I would advertise the lawn myself." But the city garden office is responsible for that.

And that hasn't progressed for four years - although he has even prepared sample tenders, says Nuber.

But before he retires (next year), it will work out, promises the head of the sports department.

Nuber also assigns responsibility to the garden department for holes in places that, according to the letter, have already led to injuries.

A company that had installed new irrigation systems had worked poorly.

But the gardening department took it off anyway.

"I do not know why.

But that's the way it is." His groundskeepers would have fixed that in the end, according to the head of the sports department.

Criticism of the caretaker: the head of the sports department speaks plainly

Without Gaittet having explicitly asked about it, Nuber goes into detail about the complaints about the communication behavior of the new caretaker on the facility.

The man doesn't do a bad job.

But he was “not one hundred percent good” when it came to communication.

He is, as they say in Bavaria, "a buffalo".

The other side then reacts accordingly and so some situations would escalate.

However, he sees no reason to put the man on the street for unfriendliness.

"Half the city administration would have to..." Nuber starts, laughs, but is then stopped by sports mayor Astrid Freudenstein.

Criticism of the caretaker: Poorly paid position with a lot of potential for conflict

"A serious word" was spoken to the caretaker and he will communicate differently in the future, otherwise he is threatened with a warning.

But you always have to remember that the man works in an EG5 position (between around 2,500 and 3,100 euros gross), which after long struggles could only be upgraded from pay group 4.

48 hours, shift work.

"It's really not an easy job there and you're constantly plagued with conflict talks."
