That's what the Greens thought: Heinz Moser had attached this depiction of a bicycle parking area to the application from the Greens and MfG - but this did not get a majority in the Transport Committee.

Greens and MfG want to convert a parking space on the upper Bahnhofstraße into a bicycle parking space.

But they failed in the transport committee – for the time being.

Gauting

– A motion caused a controversial debate at the recent meeting of Gauting's Environment, Energy and Transport Committee.

In order to support the retailers in the shops on the upper Bahnhofstraße after the long construction phase, the Greens parliamentary group had applied with the MfG to convert a car parking space in front of the natural food store into an area for bicycles and cargo bikes.

"We can't tear up the whole street again," warned Mayor Dr.

Brigitte Kössinger before the effort.

The committee members should therefore propose more cost-effective solutions by next week, according to the 10:2 decision.

Group spokesman Heinrich Moser explained at the meeting that the construction phase on the upper Bahnhofstraße showed how important bicycle and pedestrian traffic is for customer frequency in the shops.

Therefore, the owners of several shops would have signed the application.

The desired bicycle parking space also coincides with the urban development goals for more quality of stay around the station area, emphasized Moser.

The Greens had also attached drafts to the application.

"I have a stomach ache," explained mobility officer Florian Egginger (CSU).

“Why is the application coming now?” – shortly after the work was completed That only causes costs.

And during the construction phase it was said that there were not enough customer parking spaces, and now there are suddenly too many.

Cargo bikes could also simply be parked on the wide sidewalk, advised Egginger.

"We shouldn't wage a 'wheel versus car' battle," said Axel Höpner (MfG).

After the conversion, there are empty parking spaces on the upper Bahnhofstraße, but there is no opportunity to park cargo bikes or e-bikes in a theft-proof manner.

Annette Derksen (Greens), consultant for local development, added that she was commissioned by the "Mobility" working group to advocate for the conversion of the car parking space.

Businesses that are further away, such as the Kirchheim bookshop, were not asked at all, countered Stephanie Pahl (MiFü 82131).

Richard Eck (UBG) added that the conversion of the parking lot with only a recorded pictogram for bicycles was not feasible.

The bikes should not be parked parallel to the road, from where they tip onto the road.

He suggested a bicycle stand directly on the wall of the house.

Since the pavement was widened after the conversion, he saw “no problems” putting up three staggered wheel stands, agreed Eberhard Brucker (SPD).

After the long construction phase, "we shouldn't start digging again".

With this application for the subsequent conversion of the parking lot, Gauting would end up in the black book of the taxpayers' association, Kössinger warned.

The people of Gautinger would “declare them crazy” because of another road block.

After all, the municipal council fought for customer parking spaces in front of the shops there.

Because of the height of the sidewalk, a solution with pictograms is not possible, because the cyclists have to reach the parking space without barriers.

Derksen made a suggestion that the "Street Furniture" working group recommends bicycle hangers like those in front of the butcher shop on Münchener Straße.

dr

Matthias Ilg (Greens) finally withdrew his group's motion.

Now suggestions are to be collected.

Only in the second step will the administration check the feasibility.
