If until recently we would go into one of the subway chain restaurants and ask the seller to make us a sandwich exactly, but exactly, the way we like (three slices of tomato, a pinch of onion, a pile of green pepper, a drizzle of mustard and honey sauce, a splash of barbecue sauce and God forbid lettuce, if you ask Us), starting this week the situation has changed completely.
The world's largest fast food chain, with close to 40,000 branches in more than 100 countries, is revolutionizing its extensive menu, the largest revolution since its inception 56 years ago.
The new menu, called The Subway Series and launched in the first phase in the US, consists of 12 new, refurbished and numbered sandwiches, "carefully selected by the chain's experts," according to Subway. Sandwich number 6, for example, is an upgraded meatball sandwich, also known as The Boss), thus saving the subway, which suffers from a shortage of manpower, quite a bit of time - and as a result money as well.
And what if we are still unable to handle onions or prefer our sandwich without cheese?
Well, while the subway will allow for some "changes" in some of the components of the new flagship sandwiches, in general the new menu is unchangeable, period.
Still, those who still insist on building a sandwich from scratch and choosing ingredient-by-ingredient will be able to continue to do so (apparently to the displeasure of employees).
However, the chain hopes that from now on most orders will be based on the new menu, which it aggressively promotes - and for that matter even distributes a million free sandwiches in the US on the morning of July 12, to encourage the transition. Decide for yourself.
Were we wrong?
Fixed!
