The Center for Food Safety stated that it has instructed the relevant distributors to stop selling the affected products and remove them from the shelves, and to destroy all the mangoes in the batches involved. In the future, we will continue to strengthen the inspection of similar products.
The CFS also pointed out that in order to prevent the introduction of the new coronavirus through imported frozen food, the CFS has started to strengthen preventive testing measures since mid-2020, including at the food inspection offices at the airport, and dispatching personnel to the importers' frozen food. To strengthen the inspection of various types of frozen food and its packaging entering Hong Kong from different countries/regions.
So far, more than 37,000 food and packaging samples have been taken for virus testing. In addition to the above samples, only the scallop and packaging samples announced in August last year, the squid slices and packaging samples announced in November last year, and beef and packaging samples announced in February this year. Packed samples of pigskin, as well as samples of beef offal and chicken thighs announced in April this year tested positive.
