The Tesla plant in Grünheide is stopping production of the Model Y. What does this mean for customers who are waiting for their ordered vehicle?

Grünheide (Brandenburg) – So far, Tesla boss Elon Musk has not been really happy with his plant in Grünheide near Berlin.

During the construction phase he was annoyed by the bureaucracy, at the opening ceremony the petty uninviting of critics made headlines, then water-polluting chemicals leaked out.

Customers criticize the quality of workmanship, there are not enough employees, but there is a lot of noise about unequal salaries.

Musk thinks the plant is a “gigantic money-burning machine,” and everything is much too slow there.

The German Gigafactory is actually supposed to produce 500,000 Model Y e-cars a year, i.e. an average of almost 10,000 per week - so far there are about 1000, i.e. just a tenth.

According to Tesla, the vehicles stay at each production station for three minutes.

Tesla wants to significantly reduce this time, we are talking about just 30 seconds.

A rather sporty plan.

In order to create it, the work is now being thoroughly turned inside out.

It will now be closed for two weeks.

Tesla Grünheide closes: customers have to wait longer

For German customers who have ordered a Tesla Model Y and should receive it in the next few days, this is an annoying matter at first.

Because for the European market, this series should actually be made entirely in Grünheide.

A short-term switch to vehicles from Shanghai is apparently not planned and would not be possible at such short notice.

At least that is what the statements of affected customers on social media suggest: They were informed by Tesla that the delivery was being postponed significantly.

Buyers should now wait until the end of July, sometimes even until the beginning of August.

That's a long time when you count down the days until you can drive your new Tesla for the first time - but from a legal point of view it's too short to cancel the sales contract.

A cancellation of the purchase contract is only possible after four months of delay in delivery.

And switching to a competitor's model wouldn't help at all given the excessively long delivery times.
