The head of the Nigerian National Oil Corporation, Melle Kyari, announced today the death of the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Muhammad Barkindo, at the age of 63.
"We lost Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, who passed away yesterday evening," Kiari was quoted as saying by media on Twitter, adding, "There is no doubt that this is a great loss for his family, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, our country, OPEC and the global energy community."
It is noteworthy that Barkindo's term as Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) expires on July 31.
