In Ukraine, calm is a fleeting companion that no one dares to get used to.
Until a month ago, residents of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk lived almost normally, with running water, electricity, open supermarkets and cafes, in feverish expectation of the worst.
In recent days, the worst is no more than fifty kilometers from their doors and strikes from a distance: 17 people are dead, 67 have been injured, shops and buildings are burning in the intense bombardments of the Russian army targeting Sloviansk.
