Is Putin turning off the gas tap?

Will energy still be affordable next winter?

The municipalities in the district are also dealing intensively with these questions.

The consequence of this: Energy must be saved.

Many churches have already started to do this.

Grafrath/Maisach – Grafrath is preparing for a hard winter.

The reason: the energy crisis.

If nothing changes about the gas shortage, citizens will probably have to reckon with reduced comfort in public facilities.

"The information that is reaching me about the energy supply in the coming months is not very edifying," said Mayor Markus Kennerknecht at the most recent meeting of the municipal council.

The municipality is not completely dependent on gas for energy.

But the municipality is also struggling with high cost increases in other areas.

Wood pellets much more expensive

The price of wood pellets for the school's pellet heating system has risen massively from around 230 to currently up to 370 euros per ton.

A drastic cut in the household: "We need large quantities of pellets, a few sacks are not enough."

Kennerknecht comes to the conclusion: "We will not be able to avoid reducing energy consumption."

"But that also means that we will no longer have a 20-degree warm swimming pool." The water temperature would then have to be lowered.

The users of the gym also have to live with restrictions in the current situation: the times of use would then have to be moved from the evening hours to the bright daytime.

"We will then no longer be able to illuminate the hall until midnight," says Kennerknecht.

In addition, the head of the municipality also wants to save energy in the town hall, for example by sending more employees to work from home again.

Hard time

The topic of saving energy is also at the top of the agenda for many other municipalities in the district.

"It's going to be a difficult time," says Maisach's Mayor Hans Seidl, who is also the District Chairman of the Bavarian Municipal Council.

Many of his colleagues are currently dealing with the question of how to get through next winter.

In Maisach, a technician was specifically assigned to remedy the corresponding defects in the community's properties - such as damaged seals on windows or heating systems that were not optimally adjusted.

In addition, the tenants of the approximately 100 municipal apartments have been written to and made aware of the issue.

Seidl worries about those who already have to turn over every cent.

They need support first.

In Maisach there is a social fund that could step in in cases of hardship.

The problem of expensive and scarce energy must be discussed openly.

“We have to give the people clear wine.
