Deputy Minister of Economy Yair Golan announced this morning (Wednesday) his official candidacy for the Meretz presidency.
"I will run with the aim of fighting the Messianic and corrupt right. I am appalled by Jews who are full of hatred and religious fanaticism who beat Arabs just because they are Arabs," he said.
"I will run with the goal of building a strong and proud Zionist left, fighting for the image and future of Israel. I will run because I believe that the values of the left should lead the State of Israel. Because I believe in democracy, equality, social justice and peace, "Which fortifies the security of its citizens, and gives them full equality of rights, for each and every one, regardless of religion, race or gender."
Golan referred to Benjamin Netanyahu and said that "we should not take lightly Netanyahu's actions, which are not convicted in court - he has a significant part in the public corruption and nationalist extremism we are going through. Netanyahu has built an extremist camp around him, dark in his values "To understand where this group is dragging us all, the majority - us, against our will, against our values, against our hopes, against the vision of Israel, against the morality of the prophets.
Asked by Israel Today about uniting with the Labor Party, Golan replied that "I did not abandon the idea of a broad left-wing camp, Meretz always with an outstretched hand."
MK Musi Raz in response to Golan's announcement: "I am happy that Meretz's power has not expired, and that it has tens of thousands of functionaries who will democratically choose from among several candidates who will lead the party.
As the late Yossi Sarid told me: "We are still ready for Meretz plots."
