"Kissing Fanny" or "kissing Fanny" is not, as the expression would suggest, a reward.
This means losing a game of petanque miserably without having scored a single point, with a final score of 13 to 0. The loser, beaten soundly (the phrase has existed since the 15th century, in the form ), must then kneel down and kiss, in front of the other players and the hilarious onlookers, the bare posterior of a female representation nicknamed Fanny.
The original Fanny would have been a waitress
Did this Fanny exist?
Tradition gives it originating from Dauphiné.
The original Fanny would have been a waitress at the Grand-Lemps café (Isère), just before the First World War.
Kind, she consoled, by letting herself be kissed on the cheeks, the customers who had just lost at bowls without scoring the slightest point.
Was she angry with the mayor of the village?
The beauty presented to this chosen one, not her pink cheekbones, but her butt.
The aedile complied.
Each municipality not having a Fanny, we came to its representation, and a small wardrobe with its Fanny once adorned all the cafes where the players clashed.
Images of the Fannys flourished on postcards, calendars, stitch markers, and more.
