A Minnesota mother drowned with her three children after the death of her husband, authorities say.

A Minnesota woman drowned with her three young children on Friday after calling police to report her husband's death, according to authorities.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office released the identities and cause of death of the five family members on Tuesday, days after the bodies of three children and their mother were recovered from Lake Vadnais.

Quadrillion T. Lee, 4, Phoenix Lee, 5, and Estella Zoo Siab Lee, 3, drowned.

The smallest had also been suffocated, according to the forensic doctor.

His mother, Molly Cheng, 23, drowned, and the man believed to be his father, Yee Lee, 27, died of a gunshot wound.

"Our hearts go out to the family, friends and community impacted by this terrible tragedy," Deputy Sheriff Mike Martin said in a written statement Tuesday.

"The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances of this incident to provide clarity and closure for family members."

Maplewood police were first called to a home in the city around 10:30 am Friday after Cheng reported that her husband had shot himself.

The police arranged for social workers to come to the house to help the family.

That same day, a relative called 911 and warned that Cheng could kill his children and commit suicide, triggering a state alert to find them, authorities said.

Officers traced his cell phone to Lake Vadnais-Sucker Park, where they later found a vehicle and several pairs of children's shoes.

A search team scoured the lake and surrounding area and pulled Quadrillion Lee out of the water around 7:30 pm Friday.

Officers tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead.

Shortly after midnight, her brother's body was recovered from the lake.

The search stopped until dawn, and Cheng's body was recovered around 10:40 am on Saturday.

About 20 minutes later, the body of Estella Zoo Siab Lee was found.

The Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the deaths of the boys and Cheng as a triple murder-suicide, and Maplewood police are investigating Yee Lee's death as a suicide.

Vadnais Lake is located in Vadnais Heights, about seven miles north of St. Paul and nine miles northwest of Maplewood.
