Another step on the way to exemption from visas to the US | Israel Today

2022-07-07T06:24:31.396Z

A new agreement has been signed that will allow information to be shared with the FBI. • Israel hopes that the approval for the exemption will take effect in December - for this purpose, three laws will be passed in the Knesset.

The Minister of Internal Security, Amar Bar-Lev, signed today (Thursday) together with the US Deputy Ambassador to Israel, Jonathan Schreier in the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Ayelet Shaked, who is responsible for the visa exemption program, an agreement on information sharing (PCSC).

As part of Israel's entry into the VWP program, the US visa exemption program, Israel, like the other countries, is required to meet a number of international thresholds that will allow it to enter the program.

At the beginning of March, Israel signed the first agreement on information sharing, and today a second agreement was signed, the main of the two, which will allow information to be shared, this time with the FBI.

As part of the information sharing, the two countries will be able to check 1,000 times a year a fingerprint taken from the other country and ask about citizens convicted of serious criminal offenses.

"That is, all the agreements have been signed, now it remains to pass three laws in the Knesset," Shaked said.

"Although the Likud is trying to delay the exemption of visas for citizens of the State of Israel who have ever been at the most advanced stage due to political considerations, we continue to run with all our might and promote further agreements that are necessary conditions for entry into the exemption program." Work at the day-to-day level to complete the process by December.

I pledge to continue to advance this all-important task and intend to demand to continue engaging in it even after the election in order to bring the good news that all the citizens of the State of Israel are so eagerly awaiting. "

Bar-Lev said, "The PSCS agreement is of strategic importance to the State of Israel. The agreement will establish mechanisms to increase cooperation between the Israeli government and the United States government in the fight against serious crime and terrorism, using advanced systems that will monitor and detect suspects. "Another significant step in the process of Israel's integration into the visa waiver program for the United States. A significant role in leading the project lies with the Ministry of Internal Security and the Israel Police, and we will work to promote it in a way that contributes to strategic relations between Israel and the United States."
