Employees of a Hamburg call center are currently promising cheap electricity prices, claiming to be acting on behalf of the Tölzer Stadtwerke.

But they are not behind the calls at all.

Bad Tölz – These days, a 60-year-old Tölzer and a 71-year-old Tölzer received calls asking about the status of the electricity meter.

After that, a cheap electricity offer should be submitted.

The impression was given that the calls came from the Tölzer Stadtwerke.

Stadtwerke managing director warns against giving information

As Stadtwerke Managing Director Walter Huber said at the request of the Tölzer Kurier, the calls have nothing to do with the Tölzer energy supplier.

Huber: "Advertising calls are prohibited anyway.

I can only warn against giving further information here.” Often attempts are then made to terminate an existing contract with the public utility company, which can have unpleasant consequences for the customer.

As Huber further reports, there was even a case in the Erding area that the caller used the situation to swindle money with the so-called grandchild trick.

Stadtwerke do not pass on customer telephone numbers

As Huber emphasizes, Stadtwerke usually contact their customers at the end of the year, but even then not by telephone.

Since electricity prices are currently exploding, it is not credible anyway that more favorable conditions than the previous contracts can be offered.

It is also unclear how the call centers get the numbers.

Huber says: "We do not pass on our customers' phone numbers."
