London-Sana
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has officially announced his resignation as leader of the Conservative Party.
And the media quoted Johnson as saying in a statement in front of his residence in London after submitting his resignation, “I struggled very hard in the past few days to continue because I felt that it was my job and my duty to continue as prime minister,” declaring that he would continue to assume the duties of prime minister until a new leader was chosen.
Johnson had called Britain's Queen Elizabeth II to inform her that he had decided to step down as the Conservative Party leadership.
Johnson's resignation comes after a wave of resignations that swept his party and government amid a series of scandals that followed him.
Johnson became prime minister in July 2019.
