The Élysée announced on Thursday that the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron had proposed to appoint former Prime Minister Jean Castex as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agency for Financing Transport Infrastructure in France (AFITF).
The President of the Republic "considers, on the proposal of Prime Minister" Élisabeth Borne, to appoint Jean Castex to this post, a proposal which will be submitted to the opinion of the dedicated parliamentary committees, according to the provisions provided for by the Constitution, specified the Elysee.

Currently, the Transport Infrastructure Financing Agency of France is chaired by Christophe Béchu, appointed Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion on Monday.
AFITF is a public institution whose mission is to finance road, rail, river and port infrastructure in France.
The financing of the AFITF is diverse since it collects a share of the internal consumption tax on energy products (TICPE), a payment from the motorway concession companies, or even a share of the fines for automatic speed cameras.
Castex interested
Jean Castex, without activity since his departure from Matignon on May 16, “accepted” this proposal by reminding AFP of his “old and well-established taste for transport”, in particular trains.
In particular, during his time at Matignon, he had multiplied the inaugurations of small lines, the signing of high-speed link projects, the reopening of night trains, going so far as to sleep himself in a Paris-Nice.
