The major Gräfelfingen town center renovation project, which was due to start at the beginning of October, has been delayed – probably by at least two months.

There are several understandable reasons for this.

Gräfelfing

– The term “renovation” is an inadequate description of what the municipality of Gräfelfing intends to do with its community center.

For almost 15 million euros, the municipality will completely renovate, modernize, rebuild and expand the building from the 1980s.

This means that the current uses such as the library and the rental of the two halls including the foyer for cultural and other events are not possible during the work.

The only exception is the cinema, which has to move into a box office in an outsourced container, but should otherwise continue to function.

At least two months delay in Graefelfing's community center renovation

The library was originally supposed to move into its temporary quarters in the former Doemens building immediately after the end of the Kunstverein's current exhibition;

everything is already planned in detail.

Now it looks like the library can take a little more time with the move.

And that community center boss Jan Konarski, who initially only made appointments up to and including September because the work was supposed to start in October, will also be open in the fall.

As Mayor Peter Köstler announced in the most recent main committee, it is becoming apparent that the municipality will postpone the start of construction.

One reason is that the building permit still has to be updated on the important point of fire protection.

Secondly, several community experts advised against tendering the construction work during the summer break, "so as not to have difficulties with suitable offers," says Köstler.

He prefers to "say openly and honestly: We will start about two months later".

No construction can begin without a building permit

Without a building permit, there will be no start of construction anyway.

Although it is possible to start with the demolition work.

But if there is a “standstill” afterwards, that cannot be communicated.

Under no circumstances does the mayor want to experience a vacated, empty community center while users have been turned away or outsourced.

On July 21, the mayor also wants to address the issue to the building committee.

Köstler: "Before the summer break begins, we need to know where we are."
