The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) recognized EL PAÍS America in its Latin America Digital Media Awards.

The newspaper's webpage and the weekly newsletter

Americanas,

which incorporates gender perspective,

both won awards.

The members of the jury considered 120 projects by 62 media organizations from throughout Latin America.

EL PAÍS America

, led by Jan Martínez Ahrens, offers readers a general view of the region.

It works with a wide network of journalists, analysts, columnists, editors, photographers and videographers, in addition to social media and audience specialists and designers, who produce multimedia content accessible via the webpage, mobile web and mobile application.

The team, distributed throughout newsrooms across the entire continent, includes journalists from a variety of nationalities, allowing them to combine local knowledge with the vision of correspondents.

EL PAÍS America

increased its presence in LATAM, expanding the newsrooms in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile and reinforcing its coverage with the objective of giving Latin American readers a global perspective, with its principles of independence and rigor, as well as a look at the most important news in each country, with a wide network of reporters and analysts who are among the global references in media,” WAN-AFRA stated in the award announcement.

The newspaper has strengthened its presence with digital versions including the Mexico edition, which began publishing on July 1, 2020, and the Colombia, Argentina and Chile editions, launched on May 8. In addition to

EL PAÍS America, The Brazilian Report

and Argentina’s

La Nation

also won awards.

Fernando Castro

Americanas

, a project coordinated by journalists Lorena Arroyo, Sally Palomino and Almudena Barragán, has become one of

EL PAÍS America's

primary newsletters.

Since its launch in October 2021, the bulletin has created a space to discuss ideas about feminism and gender.

“They decided to begin the project at a moment when feminist movements are stronger than ever and have been at the forefront of many social movements in recent years in Latin America: the decriminalization of abortion, the fight against femicide and violence, forced disappearance and the rights of children and teenagers,” the awarding organization wrote in the announcement.

The bulletin has featured over 20 journalists, largely women, from Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and the United States.

Their voices and stories, often told from a personal perspective, give insight into the feminist movement's different focuses.

In less than a year,

Americanas

have accumulated thousands of subscribers, both male and female, from across the region, keeping their readers up-to-date on issues around feminism and gender and the barriers in the path to equality.

The newsletter has developed a collective perspective on what it means to be a woman in America, documenting the advances and the obstacles in the feminist struggle.

As it prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its release, now with more than 40 million readers, the website of

EL PAÍS America

has become a reference for information and continues to defend democratic values in a region of over 700 million people where threats to the press and freedom of expression are spreading.
