The public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt is investigating 17 caretakers from Frankfurt schools.

They are said to have been bribed by a cleaning company.

Frankfurt - The Frankfurt public prosecutor's office is investigating 17 caretakers from 16 Frankfurt schools on suspicion of corruption and taking advantage.

The caretakers are said to have been bribed by a cleaning company.

It is not yet clear which services were specifically involved.

When asked on Thursday (July 7th), the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office did not want to provide any information about the current status of the investigation.

"The exact extent of the deeds cannot yet be foreseen," said press spokeswoman Nadja Niesen.

The city of Frankfurt announced in a press release on Tuesday that the apartments and offices of the accused caretakers had been searched on June 30th.

Last year, the public prosecutor's office suspected that some caretakers were taking advantage.

After the allegations were proven to be true, it came to a termination without notice.

In addition, the caretakers were again instructed in anti-corruption training, as reported by fnp.de.

"All colleagues in the offices and I personally feel betrayed and take the situation very seriously," said Education Department Head Sylvia Weber (SPD).

The events would not only have triggered dismay, but also great determination and solidarity in the college.

Representations for the accused caretakers had already been organized by the summer holidays.

In the meantime, the public prosecutor's office and customs are investigating other suspects and another cleaning company that is said to have been involved in the processes, the city said.

This company also took care of cleaning schools in Frankfurt, but also other properties.

She was immediately relieved of her orders.

The scale of the incidents, it seems, is greater than previously thought.
