The star-studded Milky Way over the coast of the United States, the pink and purple clouds that dominate Argentina and the reflection of the northern lights in the calm waters of a lake in Canada are some of the moments captured by the shortlisted participants for the 2022 Astronomy Photographer of the Year contest.

More than 3,000 amateur and professional photographers from 67 countries participated in the 14th edition of the competition, organized by the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London.

Some participants explored the impact of pollution on astrophotography.
