The Spanish authorities announced today the confiscation of six tons of cannabis in the southern city of Barcelona and the arrest of five people in connection with the incident.
"The police and the Civil Guard seized six tons of hashish, including 3.5 tons of wrapped buds, after dismantling a giant farm near Barcelona," AFP quoted a Spanish police official as saying.
He added, "This is a record number," noting that "the operation resulted in the arrest of five people."
The investigation had begun earlier when the police discovered a 32-hectare plot of land in Villasar de Mar, about 30 kilometers from Barcelona, dedicated to the cultivation of industrial hemp. A hundred cameras day and night to watch thousands of plants scattered in several barns and greenhouses.
