"Committed to World Maritime Security": The British Navy has revealed that it thwarted and confiscated a large amount of munitions that included surface-to-air missiles during a tour of the Persian Gulf in January last year.
The incident occurred earlier this year when the Royal Navy discovered during routine patrols in the area unusual activity of a number of ships leaving the shores of Iran.
A British Marine team raided the ships after leaving Iran and searched them.
As part of it, they found many packages full of advanced weapons that experts say were intended for the Houthi rebels in Yemen, which Iran supports.
In a first for the @RoyalNavy, @HMSMontrose seized smuggled Iranian missiles in international waters south of Iran.

The equipment, which has since been transferred for inspection in the kingdom, includes a number of engines designed for surface-to-surface 351-type surface-to-surface missiles, as well as 358 surface-to-air missiles.
"Britain will continue to work for continued peace in Yemen and is committed to international maritime security so that commercial ships can pass safely without the threat of disruption," said British Army Deputy Secretary of State James Hippie.
"I am very proud of my team - Royal Navy sailors, Air Force and Royal Marines involved in these efforts and the significant positive impact they have in maintaining international order," said HMS Montrose Commander Claire Thompson.
