A water tap ran on a mountain hut in Bavaria.

For two months, nobody noticed.

6000 cubic meters of water later there was a surprise.

Oberstdorf – Wasting water is always annoying.

But right now, when Italy is hit by a catastrophic water shortage, it is of course particularly important.

That's why a message from Oberstdorf is currently doing the rounds: 6,000 cubic meters of water had run out of a forgotten tap in Bavaria.

Turned on the tap: the water flows unnoticed for two months

According to the police, the water tap in a mountain hut in Oberstdorf, Oberallgäu district, had been turned on for about two months.

Apparently no one noticed.

Liter by liter flowed down the slope behind the mountain hut and completely softened it.

The police noted that the water tap was not inside the hut, but outside the house - thus freely accessible to walkers, hikers and other people.

It wasn't until Tuesday, July 5, that the owner of the cabin noticed the faucet was turned on.

Wasting water in a Bavarian mountain hut: the bill is tough

The last time the owner checked the mountain hut was about two months earlier.

And the water probably flowed during this period as well.

A total of 6000 cubic meters of water came together.

The bill is correspondingly expensive: 10,500 euros in water costs have been incurred.

However, it is not yet known who turned on the faucet in the building, the police said.
