Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel said that "due to fear for their lives we can not guarantee the safety of the pilgrims" "Everything is being done to help the thousands of Hasidim," said Rabbi Zosha Abelski

Less than three months remain until Rosh Hashanah, and although the war in Ukraine is still raging and wreaking havoc, Breslav Chassidim have recently begun feverish attempts to formulate an outline that will allow tens of thousands of Israelis and Jews to arrive in Uman, the traditional celebration of Rabbi Nachman Mauman's grave.

At the same time, Ukraine warns that it is not clear whether followers of Rosh Hashanah will be allowed to enter the nation.

In an unusual statement issued today (Thursday) by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel, Yevgeny Korinchuk, he clarified that it is not at all certain that entry into the country will be allowed in such quantities, and called for praying for the end of the war.

"Due to the fear for the lives and well-being of visitors to Ukraine and in light of the blatant Russian war in our country, despite all efforts, we can not guarantee the safety of pilgrims and we do not currently allow tourists and visitors to enter Ukraine. This year will end the war in Ukraine, which erupted due to blatant and cruel Russian aggression, and prayed for Ukraine's victory.

It should be noted that this is an early statement, and the followers are well aware of the fact that there is still time until Rosh Hashanah, when it is possible to change and reach an agreed outline.

Although in the first days of the war Uman was also on the Russian target, and missiles even landed near the tomb mark, there has been a recent lull in the area, and Jews believe they are capable of reaching a regulated outline that will allow the masses to arrive.

"We are preparing for Rosh Hashanah as usual," Shlomi Elisha, vice president of the Ukraine Rescue Organization and one of the leaders of the Jewish community in Uman, told Israel Today, adding that they are working with the various bodies in Israel and around the world to formulate the outline.

"An artist is very far from the front line and life goes on as usual except for a curfew at night. Every Saturday there are between 150 and 200 people who come to visit the grade. We are supposed to see more and more immigration to the tombs of the righteous in the coming month," said Elisha.

"We are preparing for Rosh Hashanah as usual, but we are facing security challenges that we did not have every year. The Corona period taught us to face more types of challenges, and we believe we will also be able to face the challenge of war. We all hope that this war will end as soon as possible. "

"Israel Today" has learned that, among other things, initial contacts were made with the Kremlin in order to reach an outline in which the Russians will not fire at the Uman area during the Rosh Hashanah period, in order to ensure the safety of those who arrive.

It is not clear how far the contacts are progressing and whether they will really take shape, but Breslav is interested in reaching the maximum safety of the participants and allowing the celebration to take place.

There are other significant problems facing the revelry organizers, besides the security aspect.

Thus, even today there are no regular flights within Ukraine, so in order to bring visitors one has to create a safe route through which they can reach by cars and buses.

One option is a land crossing from Moldova to Ukraine, the shortest land route to the city.

The mayor, Chisinau Mendel Axelrod, met yesterday in the city's Great Synagogue with representatives of the Foreign Ministry, Israeli Ambassador to Moldova Joel Leon and Keren Cohen-Gat, Director of the Euro-Asia Department at the Foreign Ministry, and the three discussed Security and land border crossings between Moldova and Ukraine.

"Together with the authorities in the country and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we are doing everything to help the thousands of Hasidim who are expected to come here on their way to and from Ukraine - in parallel with the ongoing work with the local community and thousands of refugees," said Rabbi Zosha Abelski. "On the fruitful cooperation throughout the year and in particular around the arrival of the Hasidim to Uman."
