Climate change is a criterion of the project

About the history of the project: In December 2019, the State Ministry for Housing, Building and Transport advertised a model project for experimental housing on the subject of “climate adaptation in housing, building and living with climate change”.

Press spokeswoman Christl Steinhart: "In line with the environmental initiative City, Climate, Nature, the challenges of climate change should be explicitly addressed in the planning."

The city of Freising had applied with a feasibility study for income-supported housing at the Obere Pfalzgrafstraße/Am Stengerbach location (eap architects and urban planners, Munich) and was selected as one of ten projects across Bavaria to participate in the model project's funding program.

For the competition, which started in March this year, "15 applicant groups made up of architects and landscape planners were selected to participate after an EU-wide call for tenders".

Twelve papers were submitted

Twelve papers were submitted by the end of the processing period on May 24th.

The task was to “develop practical solutions for climate adaptation in residential complexes and buildings that have a high quality of life, multifunctional usability of the open spaces and structurally rich habitats for the residents as well as the local biodiversity”.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Now the jury is in session

The jury session is on Friday and the exhibition begins on Sunday: An ecological and family-friendly model settlement is to be built in the planning area south of the Isar floodplains.

In the approximately 1.8 hectare area between Isarstraße and Angerbach there are, among other things, eight building plots owned by the city.

According to the city, the focus of the model project is “on construction projects with rental apartments in apartment buildings”.

The residential buildings, which are in great need of renovation and some of which are empty, no longer meet today's living standards.
