A woman wet her pants on a train on the way to Frankfurt.

The reason is missing working toilets because of the 9 euro ticket.

Frankfurt – A young woman from Dillenburg experienced a nightmare on the train to Frankfurt.

Because all the toilets were locked, she ended up peeing in a corner.

According to the ProBahn passenger association, the fact that there are no usable toilets on the trains is not an isolated case.

This problem is mainly in regional trains and has been exacerbated by the 9-euro ticket.

Marie M. from Dillenburg also had to experience this now, as reported by fnp.de.

No toilets on the train to Frankfurt main station: woman experiences a nightmare

Marie M. took the bus to Dillenburg in the morning.

She wanted to go to a toilet on the Mittelhessen-Express in the direction of Frankfurt main station.

However, the problem in the regional train was that all the toilets were locked.

"They were all completely closed - nothing worked," as she

tells the

Hessenschau .

The young woman could not find a train attendant either.

At some point she saw no other option.

"I stood in a corner and then it just went." The railway describes such behavior as a "comfort disturbance".

But Marie M. would have loved to have done without this experience.

Klaus Zecher from the ProBahn passenger association sees no isolated case in this incident.

Especially in regional trains, the toilets are increasingly out of order.

He also makes the 9-euro ticket responsible for this.

The system of toilets in trains is similar to that in airplanes.

"These are closed vacuum systems like in airplanes, which then have to be cleaned and emptied more often when they are used to capacity," he explained to the

Hessenschau

.

Therefore, the toilets have to be pumped out more often if they are used more frequently because there is no longer enough water in them.

Frankfurt Central Station: ProBahn calls for better passenger care because of the 9-euro ticket

Zecher therefore expects better passenger care from the railways.

Either staff should be present who can rectify minor defects directly or at least enlighten the passengers.

"We keep hearing that passengers can't find anyone if they have problems," as was the case with Marie M.

Both RMV and Deutsche Bahn have apologized for Marie M.'s incident.

The RMV, which is responsible for regional train services around Frankfurt Central Station, regrets the incident.

The RMV also announced that toilets should normally be available in almost all trains.

One reason for failures could be vandalism on the trains, which holders of the 9-euro ticket are also allowed to use.

Deutsche Bahn apologized to Marie M.

"We are really very sorry that the lady had to have this unpleasant experience on the train with us.

We can only formally apologize to her for this.”

9-euro ticket ensures additional cleaning needs in trains at Frankfurt Central Station

Due to the higher number of passengers due to the 9-euro ticket, additional cleaning staff are currently active.

The Mittelhessen-Express should have been cleaned and the toilets emptied the morning before departure.

A railway spokeswoman said that it should now be clarified why that was apparently not the case.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that most train stations do not have a toilet either.

On Marie M.'s route, only two out of eleven stations were equipped with a toilet, which once again illustrates her dilemma.

In 2020, the Federal Ministry of Transport announced that only 730 of the 5,700 German train stations had toilets.

"And a toilet should really be the bare minimum," Marie M. is certainly not alone in her opinion.

In a comparable case, a woman sued Deutsche Bahn for damages in 2015.

However, she did not get the requested 400 euros, on the grounds that she could have got out to go to the toilet.

However, this was a case-by-case decision.

They left unanswered whether there must be toilets for passengers in regional trains.

The 9-euro ticket once again brought the subject of Frankfurt Central Station into focus.
