There is a violent shootout near Johannesburg – 14 people die.

Murder and violence are increasing dramatically in South Africa.

14 people have been killed in a shootout at a bar in Soweto.

The act of violence in the Johannesburg suburb happened on Sunday night (July 10), said Elias Mawela from the South African police.

The officers found twelve bodies at the crime scene, and two other people later succumbed to their injuries.

Murders and other violent crimes have increased sharply in South Africa this year, South Africa's Police Minister Bheki Cele said in early June.

According to police statistics, 6,083 people were killed between January and March - a good 22 percent more than in the same period last year.

The name of the place Soweto stands for South Western Townships.

Such housing developments are often characterized by overpopulation and a mixture of permanent buildings and barracks.

The towns are also associated with a high crime rate, although the situation has partially improved in recent years.

The country is also struggling with crime elsewhere: after a fire in South Africa's parliament, there was no shortage of blame.
