A 48-year-old lost his driver's license after a party because he had a blood alcohol content of 1.15.

At the same time - he explained in court - he hadn't really been drinking.

Wolfratshausen – A Wolfratshausener delivered a strange apology to the district court for a drunken driving he was accused of.

"I guess I drank too much non-alcoholic beer that night," he explained.

After a colleague's engagement party in Geretsried, he got into his car shortly before midnight on May 14 and promptly got into a traffic check.

The blood alcohol level measured for him was 1.15.

"The next day, my son drew my attention to the fact that many types of non-alcoholic beer contain a small amount of alcohol," said the accused.

Too much non-alcoholic?

Judges and prosecutors have to smile

Prosecutor and judge could not help but smile after this statement.

"You would have to drink far more than a crate of non-alcoholic beer to reach this value," the prosecutor pointed out.

He applied for a fine of 60 daily rates of 40 euros each - a total of 2400 euros - and a seven-month driver's license ban.

Judge Helmut Berger reduced the daily rate to 30 euros, so that the 48-year-old now has to pay 1,800 euros.

He will have to give up his driver's license by spring 2023.
